87th Annual District Assembly and Summer Camps

This time of year is a pretty busy season for local churches.  It’s the time of elections of new church officers, a time of reporting to each other, and a time of looking at the schedule of events for the coming year.  Pastors make their reports to the broader church family, and districts make their reports.  It’s also a time of reflection for a congregation, to see where we have been, and a time of vision – to think about where we are going.

May and June bring weddings to attend, end-of-school events, graduations, and plans for vacations for our families.  We’ve just finished tax time, hopefully, and we seriously look at our finances for the coming year.

On a district level, we do the same thing.  Reports start coming in and have to be compiled and audited for our own reports.  Officers for the coming year have to be elected – and we have a great team that serves the district family well.  The office staff is hard at work coordinating sessions and meetings of the 87th Annual Assembly in Las Vegas, and dealing with all the paperwork and details that an assembly entails.  Local churches are looking at how best to send delegates and trying to find good hotel rates.  The Las Vegas churches are excited about our coming and preparing to host our activities – the first visit for an assembly in many years.  Las Vegas First and Pastor Tamez have been in the process of getting their facility ready, buffed and polished for our visit.

The summer schedule is always full – camps, Camp Meeting, and Family Camp take up almost six weeks of the summer for the folks at Camp Pinerock.  There are many people behind the scenes who prepare for these great events for the district – a time for members of the church family to get away together for inspiration and challenge.

Some days it seems overwhelming – so much to process, not to mention our own family times and work hours.  How will you choose?

We hope that you will plan your summer schedule prayerfully and take advantage of opportunities to be a part of the larger church family through the district.  Perhaps part of your vacation could be invested in Family Camp or Camp Meeting – giving fun, family times the added impetus of spiritual teaching and inspiration.  Sending your kids to one of the age-group camps can give you a break, but have you considered lately that you might invest your life in counseling or teaching at one of the camps – a chance to broaden your witness and Christian influence?  What a wonderful blessing you could be!  We all know that everyone leaves a camp tired – but there are lasting benefits to investing your time and experience with others.

We hope to see you at the 87th Assembly, and we pray that whatever you plan for the following months, you will experience God’s blessings in your life and your family, reaping rich benefits in the coming years.

Sean Johnson is going to be in AZ this Summer.  Contact him at sean@houseofjames.org if you are interested in having him share at your church.

There are so many needs in the world... where do we begin to help?  How do we begin to help?  These are questions that some of us ask ourselves when we see so much suffering in the world.  "House of James Ministries" is one place to start.

Many homeless children in the Ukraine are in need of your help.  At the "House of James" our mission is to provide shelter, food, clothes, education, a warm bed and a message of hope and love through the gospel of God.

It is a vital part of our ministry to show the children on the streets the same love and compassion that Christ gives.  It is our philosophy to provide physical needs hand in hand with spiritual needs.

Fall In Love with The Church

New Church Specialties has launched a campaign dedicated to helping believers recapture the same love and passion for the church that Christ felt.  The church is made up of imperfect humans, and the flaws and problems that result can sometimes tempt you to leave and seek an individualized experience in your Christian walk.  Visit www.lovethechurch.net for your FREE 280-page book, "Falling in Love with the Church," by NCS founder Dr. Larry McKain and  find out how to build harmony, love and health back into the church.
